Marcel Rocque | Lead
Born: June 22, 1971
Hometown: St. Paul, AB
Residence: Edmonton, AB
Years Curled: 23 |
Marcel was born and raised in St. Paul, Alberta. He is the youngest of 8 children who were all introduced to curling by their father Roland. Marcel also credits his brother in law Gerry for teaching him the technical aspects of the game. Marcel was able to convince his parents to allow him to move to the Edmonton area to complete his high schooling as it was impossible to compete with the city teams. Marcel had much provincial success in his junior career while skipping and playing third.
Marcel graduated into the men’s competitive scene joining up with Don Walchuk and Gord Trenchie. Having experienced much success, he decided that he would dedicate himself to becoming the best lead that he could be. As time passed, so came the changes in teams. Having curled with Trevor McGregor for 11 years, jobs became priority and Marcel was looking for a team.
Marcel was asked to spare and play second for a team in a bonspiel at the end of the year. Marcel’s team played Randy’s team in the final and beat them. A quick mention was made after the game regarding his plans for the following season. With such quality people and such talented curlers, it was a decision that was not hard to make and Marcel joined up to complete the Ferbey 4. A decision that Marcel mentions turned into lifelong friendships. So many memories to date that will hopefully include an Olympic experience in the near future.
Marcel most important aspects in his life are listed as his marriage to Raylene (Jones) and their two daughters, Gabriella (5) and Isabella (3). Most of his off time is then juggled between his work and his family. Marcel has a few life long friends and credits much of his success in his life to the family support system in place which enables both him and his wife to continue to compete.
His hobbies include collecting fine wine, time on his Harley Davidson, and quality family time!
